Unit of Measures
Unit of measures are standardized quantities used to express and compare physical quantities. The base unit of measure for an item could be a piece, but it could also be sold in boxes (10 pieces) or pallets (100 pieces). The units of measure such as boxes and pallets are called related units of measure.
Conversion Factor
Every unit of measure has a conversion factor which can be used for converting it from and to the base unit of measure.
| Unit of Measure | Conversion Factor | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Piece (base) | 1 | - |
| Box | 10 | One box contains 10 pieces |
| Pallet | 100 | One pallet contains 100 boxes, so 1000 pieces in total |
Pricing
It is required to have a price filled in for the base unit of measure and all related units of measure with a conversion factor lower than 1.
For every other related unit of measure with a conversion factor higher than 1, it is not required to have specific pricing. When there is no specific price given for the unit of measure, the price is calculated based on the conversion factor.
Price Calculation by the Conversion Factor
Assume the price of one piece is € 2. The pricing for other units of measure can be calculated using the conversion factor.
| Unit of Measure | Conversion Factor | Price per Unit | Total Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Piece (base) | 1 | €2 | €2 |
| Box | 10 | €2 | €20 |
| Pallet | 100 | €2 | €200 |
